But, our diversity is manifested in unity—a unity that preserves and enriches this diversity in the service of a united, sovereign, and independent Lebanon.

Your presence, Your Holiness, is a powerful expression of the Vatican’s solidarity with a Lebanon where Islamo-Christian coexistence constitutes the very foundation, the particularity and, indeed, the unique character of this nation.

In fact, this unity in diversity and the spirit of coexistence make Lebanon a bridge between the East and the West.

How can we maintain strong our diversity and firm the Islamo-Christian coexistence, while deepening and concretely articulating our national unity? This is the challenge before the people of Lebanon.

Your visit to Lebanon, Your Holiness, is indeed an eloquent expression of the Vatican’s continuous solidarity with Lebanon.
